About our Company
Early on
Roadrunner was founded by James Smart in 1969 with the help of his wife, Judy. The Roadrunner legacy began out of a small Mobil gas station. They started with one tow truck located in West Baton Rouge after proudly serving in the US Navy.
James and Judy’s ability to build relationships, and their dedication to providing fast, excellent service enabled them to build Roadrunner’s fleet from one wrecker to many more. They established multiple locations on both sides of the Mississippi. After the tragic passing of James on May 1st of 2001 while working to upright a rolled-over tractor-trailer, Judy went to work that same day. She took on the full-time leadership role as owner and President, continuing to serve the towing and recovery needs of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.

Today, the 3rd generation continues to build upon the legacy of our founders. Roadrunner has been long-time members of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA), the Towing & Recovery Association of America (TRAA), the American Trucking Association (ATA), and the Towing & Recovery Professionals of Louisiana (TRPL). We are proud to hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, accredited since 2009. Our operators continue their education and training all year long — including monthly training, WreckMaster and rotator certifications, and ESA training for electric vehicle towing, recovery, and storage — so the crew that answers your call is trained for whatever unexpected situation may arise on the road.
